30 Days of SPN - Day 29

Penultimate posting on meme madness. In which I go slightly link-spammy.

Day 29 - Your favourite SPN fanfic
I don’t really read that much fic. I don’t trust many to catch the voices and the tone, and that annoys me in any show I especially care about, let alone Show. But I’ll share a few from the very early days of my reading, the ones which I stumbled across way back when, and made me reconsider making my stance a leetle less extreme.

erinrua has such a beautiful, lyric quality to her words that it’s a pleasure just to read them, and she manages to catch the physical sensations of the scene so strongly you can almost feel them yourself. AND she taps into Show’s essence, tugging and coaxing bits of SamnDean onto the page, and doesn’t get distracted by whacky shenanigans. It’s all character love.

I don’t know why, but some combination of the muggy heat and the mundanity of doing laundry just gets me every time in her Blues from a Gun. But then there is also the absolutely heartbreaking coda companions from A Very Supernatural Christmas, That Mourns in Lonely Exile Here (Sam’s POV) and Do You Hear What I Hear? (Dean’s). DO NOT ask me to choose between them.

Special mention also has to go to dodger_winslow, who I was reading early, too. Ten Going on Thirteen is just about a perfect snapshot of the Winchesters while the boys were still young (and if you like whump, her injured!John is to die for). (I would be remiss not to also point you to Stay, her outsider-POV companion piece to it.)

And then you have wonderful, more-recently-discovered minds that do things like this. O.O

I LOVE those stories of ErinRua's. And yeah, I can't choose between them either. They are totally inspired.

I haven't read much of Dodger's fic so I'll check those out.

And thanks for the rec. *shy smile*

Dodger's fic is nice and raw and hurty. Her John voice comes through even when she's writing the boys, which I personally like as a good change.

You're welcome. It's well deserved! *shy-happy smile back*

Huh. So that's the new Ping thing. Well, I'm very pleased to thank you for the lovely comments on my stories. Ping-back feels a bit like eaves-dropping, and I may see if I can turn it off in the future. But for now? You've made me smile and I'm grateful. Thank you for your lovely thoughts. :-)

Ah, the ping thing! I haven't been paying much attention, but I'm glad it gave you a chance to smile. And you're welcome to drop eaves around here anytime anyway. :)

And you're so welcome. I love your stuff. And this is even back when I had the lowest possible tolerance to SPN fic ever. Thank you so much for sharing your stories and your feel for the story with us in such a beautiful way. It's what fanfic SHOULD be. :)
