More meme nickage from lmx_v3point3!!!! asdfghjklkjhgfdsa!!!!

There is, in fact, no actual limit on the amount I love images and what can be expressed through them. (Although a lot of them communicate in ways that are context-specific, and thus perhaps are not readily obvious.) There is, I suppose, some sort of progression to the iconic answers. Kind of. Look. This sort of thing is complex for artists. It MATTERS, OKAY? There are F*ING NUANCES. You don't HAVE to click on the cut. Quit yo bitchin.

(I forcibly kept myself from adding actual words to the answers. *headdesk* If you actually want something to make actual sense, y'know, in some sort of context, I guess you'll have to ask or something.)

1. How do you feel right now?

2. What's your favorite pastime?

3. Do you consider yourself a strange person?

4. What's your main fandom/favorite show right now?

5. OPT?

6. How do you describe yourself?

7. What's your favorite icon to use that's not default?

8. Do you have an icon of your future husband/wife?

9. Do you have a WTF icon?

10. How do you feel towards love?

11. Saddest icon?

12. Happiest icon?

Ths is LMX too lazy to log in on Kindle keyboard. I was really looking forward to seeing your choices and either you have played a cruel trick on us all or I am not able to see your icons on the Kindle. Sigh. Ill comment again when Im back in the UK.

Aww, boo. Silly Kindle. Icons are for kids! :)

*goes to read all the explanations below before demanding more*

This is totally awesome. XD

Thanks XD

See, every so often you'll post something like this, and I'll think to myself "How can I possibly talk to this person?" Then I'll breathe a sigh of relief that I got up the nerve to talk to you before I became hopelessly intimidated.

Y'know, if you feel like elaborating with WORDS, I'm all ears. Tell me. *chinhands*
Aug. 17th, 2011 03:25 am (UTC)

You mean intimidating in that, even with icons, I can't STFU?

But adding words? Cripes. You sure you want to open that can'o'worms? Because it occurs to me that I wouldn't know where to start, and that usually means I can waffle on FOREVER. Can we narrow the parameters at all? Any that you want elaboration on or struck you for some reason?
Aug. 17th, 2011 10:02 pm (UTC)
Hah, no. I mean intimidated in that you're so freakin' talented, and just generally awesome.(And okay, if I didn't know you, your double guns icon would scare me. ;p)

"that usually means I can waffle on FOREVER."

Really? You do remember who you're talking to here? Besides, you'd be telling me all about yourself, and I'd really love that.

But okay, I'll make it easier for you.
1. The icon from OTP and Love: details are important. I don't know where that one's from, so I can't figure it out.
2. Happiest icons - no idea where those are from either.
3. Describe yourself. Um, all of these? I'd like to know what they mean to you. (And I'm curious if I've interpreted them right.)

I'm rather demanding, aren't I? I'll STFU now.
Aug. 18th, 2011 03:39 pm (UTC)
Ha! Well, to put your mind at ease, I'm not a gun girl. And thanks for making it a little easier for me! It's so much simpler when people are demanding ;)

The "details" icon is from The Hurt Locker, which I went on about rather a lot about here. (There are Much Spoiler in that post, though. And another quick little post flailing about Jensen comparing the character from the film to Dean's early S6 experience.) The image itself is the main character, Sgt James, disarming a bomb. Which is what he does. If you read my post on the movie, you'll understand why I put it as an OPT! (I'm assuming Jayne/Hat and Jayne/guns need no explanation? :D)

The first happiest icon is Simon Amstell from a British music pop quiz called Never Mind the Buzzcocks. He's ... awesome. And brilliantly snarky. I'm pretty sure that expression in that moment was sarcastic, actually, but he makes it all so fun that it works anyway. The other icon is a detail from John Singer Sargent's Capri. He's one of my favourite painters. Didn't have much more reason beyond that :)

And, describe myself. Well ... uh. Okay. The first one is a drawing of something I came up with to represent myself (natch) for an assignment, a couple of years ago. A black rook piece wearing a jester's cap.

The gun one, even though I'm not a gun girl, is Boondock Saints. Don't worry, I don't believe I'm called by God to kill criminals, either. But two crazy, close brothers, fighting a fight that no one else understands? Uh, yeah. Get that. (In fact, I've developed this kind of relationship with a couple of people, on top of my actual brother. And then I've somehow managed to just adopt a bunch of younger brothers around me. The friend/sibling line is pretty fluid with me.) Also the faith aspect there, even though it's usually skewed in movies. And the tattoos? Truth and Justice? Yeah, that's incredibly important to me and what I'll fight for – just not with guns. Although I'd add Love to that, too, which is represented not by tattoos but by their relationship. (And clearly I'm expecting that kind of bond to be a part with the guy I'll end up with. I just don't know who that is, yet. I'm kind of ... picky.)

Next, archeress on a Greek vase. More of just that hunter/warrior mentality. (And with a corresponding Greek warrior in the husband question, of course.) Some of us who lived together for the summer were doing the "what animal would each of us be?" question, and one of the little brothers I'd acquired said I was a wild horse, and later added a pet tiger. So, make of that what you will. :D

The fire one is Kara Thrace from BSG (lookout, spoiler) burning her own body that she discovered crashed on "Earth". I am NOT one of these girls who really identify with Kara Thrace, but I do get that particular gesture, and that image captures a lot of a dynamic in my life.

Kangaroo, that's just me being ... me, I guess. Some of the questions you get asked as an Australian abroad, especially here in the States, bring out the snark.

The silhouette picture is from the ... I'm pretty sure it's S5 SPN blooper reel. I've always been a backstage person; I used to do a bit of that, actually; scenic art and backstage work for theatre. It's where I like to be. And definitely NOT onstage.

And, lastly, beware of God. And that's just appropriate in so many ways. He is FIERCE. And I love that about him (along with so many other things, of course). And people so often don't get that, but I won't jump up on my soapbox about that, beause I have a room to finish painting before tomorrow, and also it may come in tangetally with the Hell House discussion. Once I get to it. *headdesk*

So, anyway, that's some explanation, I guess. Thanks for asking, and letting me waffle! Did it line up with what you thought? I'm also planning to get to yours at some point. I'm taking next week just OFF. I need it! :)

"The "details" icon is from The Hurt Locker"

Ah. I've seen it, and I remember reading your posts, but I think I'll have to go back and re-read that main one.

"I'm assuming Jayne/Hat and Jayne/guns need no explanation?"

Oh you're wrong there. I just thought that because Jayne is your favourite from Firefly, the OPT was You/Jayne. Your way is much funnier.

"The other icon is a detail from John Singer Sargent's Capri."

See, I could never make it out because it's so small. (And I wouldn't have known it anyway.) The woman reminded me of Snow White, so I thought it was a work of Pop art with a dancing Snow White. Behold my brain. :/

"A black rook piece wearing a jester's cap."

That's your own work? Cool!

"The gun one, even though I'm not a gun girl, is Boondock Saints."

Yep, recognized Boondock Saints (although I've never seen it). Yeah, I took it as "willing to fight for what you believe in", especially given the Truth tattoo (I couldn't make out the other word). I was also contemplating just a more general "likes a good argument/debate" meaning.

"The fire one is Kara Thrace from BSG"

Again (I'm so repetitive!) I couldn't make out exactly what it was, so I just figured: Flamethrower - burning bridges, no looking back. That sort of thing.

"Did it line up with what you thought?"

It did! It was more that I wasn't sure if there were more esoteric meanings to some of your choices, but from what I know of you through your writing, I thought I'd interpreted it rather accurately.

"I was a wild horse, and later added a pet tiger."

Wow. ♥

Sgt James/IEDs really is my true OTP. I really don't know what that says about me. (Me/Jayne is just scary! :D) And, of course, makes a nicely layered answer for how I feel about love – details are, indeed, important, but my understanding of love definitely has more than a passing resemblence to defusing a bomb in enemy territory.

Boondock Saints is probably worth a watch. The brother bond (twins, in this case) is just as strong as with Show, and that alone makes it pretty special. Less messed up between them, too, which can be a nice change of pace. Still, very violent, in that mid-to-late nineties way, so be warned. It's "Veritas" and "Aequitas" on their hands. (And I LOVE a good argument.)

Yeah, it's annoying how small they are, and how much detail you lose. I have to say that in making icons, I tend to err on the side of making something I understand but no one else can make out, unless they really know the work well. Although I do try to include the source in my userpic page, to make it a little easier! But yeah, there are a LOT of layers in that icon, too; pretty much the entire background of her story in BSG at that point, none of which you can get from the image alone! Ironically, I'm pretty comfortable with not over-explaining myself. Unless, of course, someone happens to ask. ;)

So assume there are a bunch of layers to each of them that are not at all readily apparent. *shrug* What can I say, I'm like SO enigmatic. :D

"Although I do try to include the source in my userpic page, to make it a little easier!"

*headdesk* I looked up all your icons at one point or another, but somehow I just kept forgetting what they meant. Or, for instance, "Simon NMTB" was too vague for me. (Checked out those clips - he IS awesomely snarky. I like.)

"I really don't know what that says about me."

I'm not touching that line with a ten-foot pole.

"And I LOVE a good argument."

:D THAT, I knew.

"I'm like SO enigmatic."

You are a riddle wrapped in an enigma wrapped inside a taco.
Aug. 23rd, 2011 05:59 pm (UTC)
Yes, I am also vague. I don't make things easy on ANYONE. :D

I'm not touching that line with a ten-foot pole.

*flashlight to the face*

Tacos! \o/
