OH FFS

PENALTY BLOODY SHOOTOUT *headdesk*

Also, my man [Captain] Bumblebee here seemed just a little ... flat. Not in play, but just mood-wise.

Still – through to the final. C'mon, boys, let's make it 3 for 3. Woooooooo back to bed for me.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

*clings sleep-deprivedly*

(Isn't he incredible? I don't know when in the past year or two it happened, but when I heard the commentator giving him "best goalkeeper in the world" acknowledgement, I was like, oh hai world, way to catch up, I've been here for years. I can't wait to see Sunday's grand final. I just hope Spain can get their act together and play their sexy, sexy passing game for more than 35 minutes out of 120. :[ Portugal sure rattled them this game, which was interesting but inelegant to watch, and they STILL squeaked through. This Spanish side is a juggernaut, I tell you.)

I've had this post open in my browser for the last nearly two weeks. Of course, now I know you have your happy ending. Plus, everyone in Ireland can be a little comforted by the fact that the score int he Final was the same as the score in the Ireland vs Spain match. :)

After that match, I heard an interview on the radio with an Irish guy who had been at the Ireland vs. Spain match. He'd befriended a couple of Spanish fans, who sold him a spare ticket that they had. The seats were right behind the goal. At the end of the match, yerman Captain Bumblebee :) took off his jersey and threw it into the crowd, where the Irish guy caught it.

The first question that the radio presenter asked (which is the first question everyone now asks the Irish guy) is "Is there any sweat at all on it?" And of course the answer is no because it's not the ball got near the Spanish goal very much in that match.

Heard that story and thought of you. :)

True. When Australia went out against Italy in the 2006 WC, it was greatly soothed by the fact that Italy went on to win it. It's the little things that get you through. :)

Okay, one, *envious*. Two, I noticed him chucking his gloves and armbands into the crowd after games, but I didn't realise the jersey went, too. That Casillas, man, he absolutely delights me as a sportsman, a keeper, and a captain. I avoid reading anything about the side until after the competition is over (it's a self-defence mechanism, I think, otherwise I'd overload), but in my pottering around since then, I came across this little gem that was caught on camera in the final. The match had gone into stoppage time, Spain had just scored twice in about four minutes and looked quite keen to make a complete meal of it, and Casillas asked the ref to blow the whistle. THIS MAN. I JUST. I can't tell you how that gesture warms my goalkeeping heart. *melts*
